A Plastic bag tied to a string

I’ve begun a ministry to children with a very good friend of mine named Ella. At this time we are simply trying to love the kids, play with them and build their trust and the trust of their parents. They are living in very terrible conditions. Their homes are abandoned buildings that used to house factory workers in Soviet times. They are going without normal everyday things that we take for granted. There are no toilets and there is only one source of water which amounts to a pipe coming out of the ground. Oftentimes I see small children carrying buckets of water to their “apartments.” I’ve never seen any of them eating anything but bread and an occasional tomato. Many of these kids are cross-eyed and bow-legged and almost all of them are extremely skinny. One woman’s husband died of TB recently. These are sicknesses and diseases that no one should have to deal with in this day and age but they don’t have money to get the treatment they need. One five year old was bitten twice by a stray dog and he wasn’t able to get the rabies shots needed. We pray he is going to be alright. These children run around a yard where there is broken glass everywhere. They have no toys either. One little boy uses a plastic bag tied with a string for a kite. Sticks are a favorite toy too; however, they are often used to hurt one another as they are left to do as they please. Ella and I would like to start a preschool and Sunday School for these kids but we don’t have a place to meet. We need to remain there on the grounds because transportation is a problem for the parents. We are currently waiting to look at a second story building that is empty. It needs a lot of work and we’d need desks and chairs and other supplies. The mothers are very happy that we want to help and we believe God will use us to reach both the children and the parents for Him. Please pray for God's will, His resources and His favor!
